Below is information about mbau forest, or forest where the tree species, Gilbertiodendron dewevrei, is the single dominant.
My dissertation (teresehart-dissertation, 213 pages, 5903KB) defended in 1985, concerned an abrupt transition between mbau forest and mixed forest. This is a transition that runs through many kilometers of forest and reoccurs in many areas of Congolese forest. Several possible causal factors were proposed and then experiments were conducted and observations were made to determine if these were indeed likely explanations for the existence of mbau forest by contrasting conditions in the two forest types.
